2020.09.25 14:55 Bervatos Best man's birthday

My best man has his birthday the day after I have my micro wedding ceremony. We are all going out to brunch as an final meal before leaving the wedding weekend, but I'd like to get him something special as a thanks for being there and for his birthday.
Some facts:
We met in college through a study abroad program. After that semester we would hang out, go drink, attend MLB games together and more. After college we moved apart. He went to South Korea for a few years to teach. He recently came back to begin a career here in the US as a Certified Financial Planner.
Something to note, I already have an engraved watch I'm giving my groomsman and best man, so watches are off the table.
Budget, up to $250
Thank you for your help!

Financial planning is no different froma structured problem solving framework. Every structured business problem solving exercises has specific steps (the same can be applied in financial planning as well). However, there are broadly 6 steps in the financial planning process. Most certified financial planners (CFPs) and financial adviserswill be very familiar with these steps. However, investors should understand that, while financial planners or CFPs can play an important role in the financial planning process, the success of the financial plan ultimately depends on the investor. Therefore, it will be useful for investors to familiarizethemselves with the process, so that they can work efficiently and effectively with their financial planners or advisers.

2020.09.25 06:12 Firstclass30 If you are a certified professional, you may be eligible to receive your own custom flair.

Good afternoon dividends,
To help combat the spread of misinformation, recently I have begun testing the idea of certain licensed professionals being granted their own custom flair. People who are licensed and/or certified financial professionals that wish to contribute meaningfully to dividends will have this option open to them. To explain further, I have put a short preemptive Q&A.
Why are you doing this?
Pretty simple. I can only get so far in moderating this subreddit. I have a degree in management, with my entire career being in that field. I am not a CPA, Project Accountant, Auditor, etc. However, I know that there are people who participate on this subreddit that are very well qualified and credentialed. I see your comments every day. So I want to give you a way to give genuine advice without some WSB troll getting in your way.
Who is eligible?
Excellent question. If you hold a certificate, license, or other credential in some form in either finance or law, you are free to apply.
Can you give a definitive complete list?
I'm pretty sure that would break reddit's character limit. Every country has different terms for its licensed financial professionals. I will say if you are an accountant, tax lawyer, Certified Financial Planner, or anyone represented here. (or your particular country's equivalent) you are welcome to apply. It never hurts to ask if you aren't sure.
Where do I sign up? How do I sign up?
Simple. DM me your credentials. Those of you with valid credentials know exactly what to send to allow for verification, and I know how to verify your financial credentials. Don't worry, I won't contact any employers. I have a life too.
Will my information be kept confidential?"
Of course. I would never reveal your information, nor do I have anything to gain. My boss knows I moderate this subreddit. I would get fired by her in about 4.5 seconds if I did something so dumb. This is why I am requiring the use of reddit's DM feature, and not modmail.
I have already granted this flair to one user. He is a verified Systems Accountant and his flair says "Certified Accountant." If you were to go through this, your flair would say your particular certification/license. I will probably change your flair u/koenigsburg-20 to denote your being the test case.
As always, anyone is free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Note: Attempting to bullshit me will result in a permanent ban. Attempting to pose as a licensed professional is actually illegal here in the US, so any abuse of this system will be reported directly to the admins. The tools to verify this stuff is pretty easy to find and use. You aren't being smart by doing it.
Edit: So far 3 individuals have passed verification. They are:
u/koenigsburg-20 (Verified Systems Accountant)
u/1A9D6 (Verified Accountant)
u/Noah_saav (Verified CFA) [A CFA is a Chartered Financial Analyst.]
These guys have been given a unique orange flair color. Each flair will be tailored to the credentials of the specific user, combined with how much information the user wishes to reveal to the public.

2020.09.24 23:36 Serg415 I'm looking for feedback for a personal financial planning application I'm working on

Link to 14 question survey: https://forms.gle/qoAVjptbXEYepUJR9
Hello everyone. I hope it's okay I post this survey. I did reach out to the moderator but didn't get a reply. I’m collecting feedback for a low cost (maybe initially free) financial planning application for low-middle income earners. I have been in the financial planning industry in San Francisco servicing high net-worth individuals for almost 7 years now. I am working towards my Certified Financial Planner designation. I have completed the work experience and education requirements.
The information I gather here will help me in my application design. I have designed this survey so that none of the questions are required but I would appreciate as much information as you can provide. I am not sharing this information with anyone except for the developer I have partnered with.
I am not asking that you provide specific personally identifiable information. Unless you would like to provide your email so I can reach out to you for more feedback as my application gets developed. I would highly appreciate volunteers. I'm also looking for partners with financial planning and/or project management experience. Thank you! Please let me know if you have any questions.

I was wondering if there were any people here who have worked with a certified financial planner (CFP) before and I was hoping to hear their experience on working with one. I need some help in managing my personal finances and thought that it may be a good idea to consult a CFP. Let me know what you guys think please.

2020.09.01 21:35 dvhniel Financial Analyst vs. Financial Advisor

Hello to people on Reddit,
I'm currently a Financial Advisor at an RIA firm located in Atlanta, GA. I do love what I do and I love my company, but I've been having an issue where I feel like I lack growth over the past three years.
I don't get to work directly with any of the clients, yet I've been acknowledging my strong interest in playing around with numbers and Excel and building a story behind it. So when the COVID started, I began looking for a job as a Financial Analyst by constantly applying and networking with anyone I could. Fortunately, I've recently received an offer from a startup company to become its first Financial Analyst.
They are aware of the lack of experience I have as an Analyst, but they did want someone that could learn their way of doing things, so I was suited the best amongst other candidates.
The dilemma is that with startup companies, it comes with the risk of easily being laid off depending on the economy and the company's performance. In addition, I did spend the past three years as an advisor and even devoted a lot of my time to become a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER.
On the other hand, if I'm able to get enough experience and skill set as an analyst, I feel like there would be more opportunities down the road and it simply is what I enjoy doing.
What would you guys decide on and what's the reason behind your decision?

2020.08.31 14:10 series7examtutor SEC Expands Definition of Accredited Investor

Apparently, anyone who is registered and in good standing with the series 7, 65 or 82, would be considered an accredited investor. Unless I am missing something, if a person is a CFA charterholder or a Certified Financial Planner you are not considered accredited.
This subreddit has a lot of accredited investors.

2020.08.25 08:25 AlrightLolita Having relationship imbalances

My bf (25m) and I(22f) have been dating for less than a year known for 6m dating for 3, meeting him before, and during pandemic has been interesting. Anyway, we've grown together well and can share the same morals and relationship expectations, I mean it's all good compatibility so we're very optimistic about this relationship.
The only 'issue' is that if we do plan on merging our lives together at one point, I'm afraid he'll get tired of waiting for me to do so. He is graduated with a stem degree, financially stable, and is a planner of the future as I am, so he has most of his finance questions 'out the way'. As I in the other hand have recently started doing better in life, but not yet even accomplished an associates degree. What is worse about this it's that I do not have something specific in which I want to major in. I have an idea to what I want to do but haven't reached certainty. He gets paid a salary, I get paid hourly.
My bf has been very supportive, he knows I do want my college degree and he knows I can achieve a lot, but I want to be able to have physical proof that I am worth believing in. I'm aware things take time. I'm currently taking off this semester because of multiple reasons but will be enrolled in the spring.
He's paid for a weekend trip to Washington(all of it..), buys me flowers, pays for dinner, drinks, has gave me gas money. I, have paid for dinner three times, I was able to give him a nice bundle gift of things he needed/wanted, have shown up once but it does not feel enough.
I know hes done this because he wants to and not because he expects something in return, but I enjoy gift giving a lot as well. I will usually go all out for people, but because of the instability rona has caused it's been difficult, on top of necessities I pay for.
What is the best way to approach this situation? He hasn't complained once, he is in the loop of my situation and is not afraid I'm leeching off of him (b/c I'm not) but it's difficult to accept his support (besides materials.. ex moral emotional etc) b/c I feel like I'm just taking and he's constantly giving. I want to be able to do the same, b/c that I've noticed is our shared love language. I've also asked him two weeks ago to hold off for a bit on the gifts. I did make it clear I loved them all but that I wanted to be able to love him back the same way but it was starting to make me uncomfortable just because of the current circumstances. I don't want to be a burden b/c of my personal problems.
I am employed, and soon start a new job with better pay. But until then I’m in this pickle jar. Is there probably a program or certification I can acquire to be able to not only add to my skill set but also set me off to a better financial position while I wait to enroll back to school? Because I think if I get certified for something, while earning good money it’ll be a good thing to have while also working on my degree. Since they do take 4 years etc.
Any advice or just something you’d like to comment on or even shared experience would be helpful. Trying to see what is the best action to take, or at least a new perspective. Thanks!

2020.08.22 22:04 Tlwofford Southern New Hampshire University...

Any reviews of it? I'm considering (pretty well decided, but wanted some feedback before actually taking the plunge) doing their online BS in Finance. It would all be online, and I've read a previous post on this sub about it. I guess I'm more curious about people that have graduated there (although any feedback is appreciated). Was it a respected degree once you graduated, or was it a University of Phoenix type of degree?
Do employers, possible employers, and businesses view their degrees as viable or are they viewed as a degree mill? Almost more importantly, is a degree from there something you could actually hang up in an office as a financial advisocertified financial planner, and have it increase your reputation?

2020.08.20 14:09 SnooPies4171 What criteria should you use to choose a good financial advisor?

Criteria for choosing the right financial advisor:
Credentials: Financial advisors are accountable to have a legitimate licence to carry on in their profession. While there are serval licences that a financial advisor can obtain to become one, the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) is the standard licence in the industry.
Ethics: Since financial advisors are responsible for financing the finances of their clients, it becomes necessary for them to have a clear legal and ethical record. They should not have a history of any criminal charges, investigations, bankruptcies or unpaid liens against them.
Experience: Like any other craft, a financial advisor with a long tail of experience in the field to exhibit to its clients are most preferable partners for the financial security of an individual. Their conventional education, coupled with their practical experience makes them the aptest advisor to trust them with your finances.
Likeability and trustworthiness of an advisor: The relationship between a financial advisor and an investor is one that is created for a long haul. It is one of the most intimate business relationship formed between the advisor and its clientele. That makes it eminent for investors to be comfortable with their advisors and be able to trust them with their finances. Although trustworthiness depends on many factors, likeability can be sorted out by setting some one-on-one meetings with the advisor.
